A recent survey compiled the words each state Googled how to spell. The word for Texas is actually one of the easier ones—so why not learn it today?

Nationally, the U.S. struggles with the word “definitely.” I’ll admit it: I’ve seen that little red squiggle under it more than once. People tend to put an “e” where the “i” belongs or mix up the “e” and “l” at the end.

Some of the words listed for other states were legitimately tricky. “Congratulations” and “pneumonia” made the list—and I’d say for good reason!

Texas' Surprising Entry: “Protect”

So let’s talk about Texas. The most-Googled “how to spell” word for Texans was “protect.” Hmm... that doesn’t seem too hard, but then again, nothing seems hard once you already know it.

What makes this a strange entry is: how do you even misspell “protect”? I guess I’ve seen a few people replace the “c” with a “k” at the end—but beyond that, I’m stumped.
