Texas drivers have to learn to share the road.

Motorcycle Deaths In Texas And The U.S.

In 2022, the most recent year that data can be pulled from, 6218 motorcycle riders were killed on U.S. roads. This means that motorcycle riders make up for 15% of traffic deaths, a very high, very disproportionate number. In Texas, that number was 574.  Texas is the second most dangerous state to ride a motorcycle.

Texans Can Help Motorcycle Riders

I do not want to scare anyone away from motorcycles and in fact, I doubt I will. There is nothing like the feeling that comes with riding on an open road. What I do want to do is humanize these riders so that other drivers will make an effort to share the road with them.

Motorcycle Riders Can Help Texans

In addition to the feeling of freedom that comes with riding a motorcycle, there is also the savings. Motorcycles are way more inexpensive than cars, use way less fuel and contribute way less pollution into the atmosphere. It seems like we should actually be working to promote motorcycles as the best way to commute instead of having to warn others of thier presence.

Texas Motorcycle Riders Should Be Extra Prepared

Training is important to riders too. Many don't have a motorcycle specific license or undergo any motorcycle specific training. I am 100% not putting the blame on riders, I am saying that as a rider, you may have to go above and beyond to protect yourself from others. Especially in Texas, you need to be an expert on your bike to avoid becoming another statistic.

The Motorcycle Safety Foundation Is Working For Bikers

I'd like to thank the Motorcycle Safety Foundation for bringing much of this to light. The warmer weather is here and bikes are on the road. Give 'em so space. Take an extra look at each intersection and never, ever turn in front of a motorcycle.
