The Dream Venue: What Lubbock Needs to Rock the Concert Scene
I was talking to a concert promoter and he mentioned a very specific need.
We Were Lucky
We've actually done quite well with concert venues around here, in the past at least. Probably that best locations were when we had the Warehouse/South Beach combo, or the Pavilion inside the Lone Star Event Center in it's prime. If you're wondering why honed in on those locations, it will all be revealed shortly.
It's Probably Not Doable
I'm not 100% sure there are enough roadshows out there to make the building of a new facility worthwhile. Still, one can dream. Maybe it would be possible to build or find a facility that would hit the sweet spot promoters are looking for. Multi-level like South Beach would be ideal to improve the sight-lines for everybody.
The Actual Need
The capacity mentioned to me was 1500. That's a perfect amount for a lot of the medium-sized bands that are around. With a 1500 capacity place you can have 300-400 people and it still looks full enough for smaller band, with a lot of headroom in case tickets do become a hot commodity. In addition, some larger acts are willing to play a venue that size for a quick payday.
Could We Strike Gold?
Again, probably the best chance for something like this to happen is with a "found venue". At this point it's probably unlikely that it will happen, but there's always a chance. There is just a huge gap right now in spaces between the size of Jake's and the Amphitheater itself and it's costing us shows.
