Lubbock police are still searching for the mother of a baby reportedly found in an East Lubbock dumpster on July 21.

The search began after a man called 911 saying he found a newborn boy in a dumpster early that Sunday morning in the 2700 block of East Third Street, which prompted LPD to search for the mother of the baby.

LPD said the baby was found around 4:00 a.m. Saturday. Anyone with information about the birth or the circumstances was asked to call Crime Line at (806) 741-1000.

“We would like to reiterate that callers can remain anonymous,” LPD said.

Court records previously stated a man told police he found the baby in a dumpster near 4th Street and Cherry Avenue around 4:00 a.m. Court records said the man told police that he took the baby inside, where the man’s mother bathed the newborn and called EMS. The baby was taken to the hospital.

“The baby is doing well, despite his circumstances,” court records stated.

Story Update:

The Lubbock Police Department said Chief Seth Herman was expected to hold a news conference on Wednesday regarding the newborn boy who was initially reported to have been found in a dumpster in the early hours of July 20.
