Millions Of Texans Expected To Hit The Road Soon

It's the holiday season and gas prices aren't as bad as they have been, still up over the last couple of years though lower than just a few weeks back. And that is good news to the millions of Texans who will be hitting the roadways throughout the state over the next few weeks.

According to AAA, 9 million Texans will travel more than 50 miles between now and the end of the year as they travel for Christmas and other holiday activities. The 9 million driver figure is actually a 3% increase since last year according to AAA and KAMC.

"AAA Texas data shows year-end travel is surging, and trips are already being booked for 2023,” said AAA Texas Vice President and General Manager, Galen Grillo in the press release. “The rebound in travel during the second half of 2022 has helped create momentum for 2023, including for the upcoming ‘wave season’ from January through March, when cruise lines offer some of their best promotions.”

Most Texans will drive to their destinations with around 8.3 million people traveling by vehicle, the motor club said.

Air travel will increase 13% over last year, with nearly nearly 377,000 Texans expected to fly.

Texans are also ramping up travel by other modes of transportation, AAA Texas said.

More than 237,000 plan to travel by bus, cruise or train which is a 21% increase from last year.

While the amount of people traveling is increasing, it's still below the pre-pandemic levels by about seven percent. Still, people are getting back to traveling for the holidays, and that is a good thing as we continue to get back to normal.
