I don't know about you, but when I was a kid, I LOVED finding pill bugs randomly outside. You know, these guys that you've seen, like, EVERYWHERE in Texas and beyond.

I would run over and pick them up and watch them curl into a ball in my hand before gently placing them back in the grass. They were the only bug that I ever felt brave enough holding since they don't bite, and the last time I checked, they don't have a secret poison gland that they haven't told anyone about.

How and Why Pill Bugs Enter a Texas Home

As spring cleaning comes to an end in Lubbock and high school seniors prepare to head off to college, furniture, clothes, and other things around the house that may have been sitting for a while are moved. During this time, certain bugs decide it's the perfect opportunity to make themselves at home as well.

First, a dead giveaway for pill bug infestations is if you have areas in or around your home with high moisture, like beneath flower pots, mulch, stones or door thresholds. 

If you are one of the lucky west Texans with a basement in your home, you get to look forward to keeping that area as dry and clean as you can, unless you want a visit from pill bugs or worse...

Some effective ways in getting rid of pill bugs around your house include the following:

• Minimize moisture around doors/windows
• Divert any water away from accumulating near foundations of your home
• Repair all exterior leaky faucets and AC units
• Remove grass clippings, wooden boards, or boxes from laying outside near foundations
• If you can't physically remove an item from around your house, find a way to elevate it off the ground

And there you have it. Remember that these guys pose little to no threat whatsoever to your health and they don't bite. They're more of a nuisance, but one that you can take steps to avoid having in your west Texas home.
