Texas City Breaks 83-Year Rainfall Record
Across the Lone Star State, it has been a rainy start to September. And that's something that Texans aren't used to when it comes to the end of Summer. In fact, normally we are still seeing hot and dry conditions in Texas. And for one Texas city, the rainfall was a record breaking one.
Leading into the Labor Day weekend, the National Weather Service also warned of flash flooding in different parts of the state, and we saw that happen. And if you were driving in Texas on Monday, you probably got caught up in the rain at some point on your drive. I know we were in rain from Fort Worth past Sweetwater.
The Texas Gulf Coast was one of the areas predicted to see record rainfall, and they sure did. According to Newsweek, by Monday afternoon, Galveston officials has ordered a flash flooding warning for the island. By Monday afternoon, Galveston officials announced that as of 1:40 pm, they had broken the area's rainfall total for September 2nd. The old record was 4.64 inches of rain was set 83-years ago in 1941.
Beneficial rain fell across all of the Lone Star State this past Labor Day Weekend and cooled off temperatures across Texas too.
