Texas Tech did advise people of steps they could take to stay safe when it comes to ridesharing according to KAMC.

• Avoid travelling alone when possible and wait for your vehicle in well-lit location.
• Make sure your phone is fully charged before going out.
• If you feel unsafe, cancel the ride and leave the vehicle.
• In an emergency, call 911 or contact the Texas Tech Police Department at (806) 742-3931.
