Elizabeth Francis, the oldest living person in the United States, has passed away. We previously wrote about Francis back in July when she was celebrating her 115th birthday, surrounded by a lot of excited family members.

Francis was from Houston, Texas and became the oldest person alive back in February. Elizabeth Frances was born in Louisiana in 1909 and was just 11-years-old when her mom died. Francis was separated from her siblings and was send to live with her aunt. As a single mom, she ran a coffee shop at ABC 13 News in Houston for 20 years. She never learned how to drive and instead walked or took the bus everywhere. According to the Washington Post, her family says she had led a simple life.

“She’s led a simple life and has always stayed busy with her family,” Harrison said, explaining that Francis’s family regularly stops by, including three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

According to the Dallas Morning News, living a long life ran in the family. Francis' sister lived to the age of 106 before she passed away in 2011. At the time, they were among the oldest living siblings in the world.

The Dallas Morning News reported that Francis never learned to drive instead, she took the bus or walked. She was known for singing, her cooking, and growing of vegetables along with loving her family.
