Kliff Kingsbury Delivers Epic ‘Dog Mentality’ Speech After Beating TCU [Watch]
Texas Tech Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury just said the four words every Red Raiders fan has been waiting years to hear.
"How about that defense," Kingsbury exclaims in the video below to thunderous applause from Texas Tech players.
Addressing his team following their hard-nosed 17-14 road win over TCU Thursday night, the coach commended them for never quitting and playing for each other.
"This team has that dog mentality. Y'all have that dog mentality. You fight your ass off for each other. It's a beautiful thing to watch as coaches. Wanna know what's pretty? When you fight for each other, you find a way," Coach Kingsbury said.
However, the loudest pop came when Kingsbury told his players they had not just Friday off, but Saturday, too. Even Strength and Conditioning Coach Rusty Whitt couldn't help but crack a smile at the reaction.
Texas Tech's defensive turnaround, the fruits of Defensive Coordinator David Gibbs' labor, has shocked the country.
In years past, Texas Tech had to rely on its high-powered Air Raid offense to basically outscore opponents because their defense just couldn't make things happen. Fast forward to the 2018 season (thus far), and you've got a defense that has allowed just 7 points across the second halves of three Big 12 conference games. They held Oklahoma State and West Virginia scoreless in those second halves, and gave up 7 points to TCU in the second half.
Come Sunday, it's back to work heading into a game against Kansas on Saturday, Oct. 20th within the friendly confines of Jones AT&T Stadium. Kickoff is at 2:30 p.m.
