Lubbock Man Nearly Shot in Drive-By Shooting at Local Post Office
Lubbock authorities are looking into an alleged drive-by shooting that took place outside the Singer Post Office at 5102 69th Street, just off the South Loop 289 access road. A police report states that at least one person was inside the post office on Monday, November 9th, when shots reportedly rang out.
KAMC News reports a man was using the self-service kiosk inside the post office when he heard loud popping sounds outside and felt something shoot past his leg. Thinking he was being shot at, the man apparently took cover and was not injured in the shooting.
Another witness told police they were standing in the parking lot of the Longhorn Steakhouse, which is just east of the post office, when they heard the gunshots, too, and saw a vehicle driving fast down the South Loop access road in front of the post office.
After a canvas of the scene, police discovered at least two bullet holes at the post office -- one through the front window, and another in the envelope station.
Police have not yet determined why the shooting occurred or if the shooting suspect may have been targeting someone who works at that post office. No shooting suspects have been named at this time, and LPD said that detectives are still investigating the incident.
