Free pie is back on the menu in Lubbock this Thanksgiving.

According to a news release from Lubbock Meals on Wheels, the organization is partnering with United Supermarkets, Mrs. Smith’s, KAMC, and KLBK for the 20th annual Feed a Friend…It's as Easy as Pie fundraiser.

The fundraiser begins November 13th and runs through November 22nd, 2020, said Lubbock Meals on Wheels.

A donation of $5 to Lubbock Meals on Wheels will get you a coupon for Mrs. Smith’s pie, which sounds yummy. Different flavors include pumpkin, apple, Dutch apple, peach, cherry, and, my personal favorite, very berry.

This year, the donation goal is $80,000 dollars, and donations can be made at any Lubbock-area United Supermarkets, Market Street or Amigos location, or at the Lubbock Meals on Wheels office, located at 2304 34th Street.

There's also a pie eating contest on November 13th, 2020 beginning at noon at the United Supermarkets store on 128th & Indiana. That contest will air on local TV and feature local celebrities and community leaders. Will we see newly-elected Mayor Dan Pope stuff his face with pie? MAYBE.

Sidney Hopper, president of The United Family, said about the event:

With COVID-19s impact still being felt in our communities, we know the need will be greater than ever for this year. We place a high value on giving back to the communities that we serve, and we enjoy the opportunity to join our financial support of Lubbock Meals on Wheels with that of our guests.

Lubbock Meals on Wheels receives no funding from the government and they are not affiliated with the United Way. They rely on local donations and volunteers to keep up with demand. They have over 1,600 volunteers, and only 16 actual staff members to make miracles happen. So let’s get out there and support a great organization in any way we can.

Who's ready for pie?
