Lubbock Police Investigate Car Chase Turned Crash
Just after midnight on Friday, May 15th, Lubbock police and first responders were called to a serious car crash at 98th Street and Avenue P.
According to news reports and the Lubbock Police Department, the crash was caused by a car chase involving a deputy with the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office.
The deputy reportedly stopped a Toyota Corolla for a traffic violation and was going to arrest the driver, 21-year-old Jihad Pollard, on an outstanding warrant. That's when Pollard sped away south on Avenue P from 82nd Street to 98th Street.
After speeding through a red light, Pollard lost control of his vehicle and rolled into a field west of Avenue P.
Pollard was last reported to be in serious condition and taken by EMS to University Medical Center. The Lubbock Police Department is still investigating the accident.
