Petersburg Man Indicted for Shooting at Lubbock Police and Leading Them on a Chase
41-year-old Jerome Garcia of Petersburg was indicted by a Lubbock County grand jury on Tuesday, August 17th for firing at police and leading them on a chase.
A month prior, it's alleged that Garcia fired shots during a confrontation with someone at a business in the 3700 block of Avenue Q. Garcia is said to have been in a confrontation with Tyrese Robinson when he pulled out a shotgun and fired one shot, striking the awning of the business.
Officers made an attempt to arrest Garcia, who was sitting in the driver's seat of his vehicle, when he allegedly raised the same shotgun and pointed it at an officer. As that officer discharged his weapon at Garcia, 2 shots were fired through the front windshield at the officer's marked vehicle.
This started a chase that ended near 121st Street and Kenosha Avenue.
There, it's said that Garcia attempted to ram into officers with his vehicle, prompting officers to open fire again. This time, they struck Garcia, who spent time at University Medical Center recovering from his wounds before he was transferred to the Lubbock County Detention Center.
KAMC News reports that originally, he was only charged for the incident along Avenue Q, but eventually charged with aggravated assault of a peace officer.
