Texas Tech Super Regional Game One

Zach Rheams has had a pretty good two weeks. He dominated the Lubbock Regional, then he got drafted in the MLB draft and today he hit a game-tying late inning solo shot that put the Red Raiders into position to win Game one of the Lubbock Super Regional over Duke. The team would close out the day with a 6-4 final score in a game with plenty of drama.

Duke would strike first taking a 1-0 lead, then they would stretch that into a 3-0 lead in the top of the fifth before Texas Tech would finally get to starter Mitch Stallings for two runs in the bottom of the inning to make it 3-2 Duke heading into the 6th inning.

Ryan Shetter would pitch a clean top of the 6th before Gabe Holt hit a fielders choice to 2nd that knocked Cam Warren in.

In the top of the 7th, with a tie game and one out in the inning, Jose Quezada would relieve Shetter who would finish with 4.2 innings of work and 2 ER. Quezada would have a wild ride in the 7th inning but only yield 1 run after giving up 2 walks and a hit in the final 2 outs of the 7th.

Texas Tech would head to the bottom of the 7th down 1, but that didn't last long because of Zach Rheams who launched his 4th home run of the post-season and tied the game with one swing of his bat.

With the momentum back on the Red Raiders side, Tim Tadlock would send Quezada back to the mound after a laborious 7th inning. Quezada's 8th inning was a brand new story that went 1, 2, 3 for the Blue Devils and once again proved Coach Tadlock knows what he is doing.

Texas Tech would capitalize in the bottom of the 8th inning scoring 2 runs to take a 6-4 lead. The inning looked like this. Cody Farhat single. Braxton Fulford bunt single. Awesome. Gabe Holt single. More Awesome. Brian Klein would then knock in the final insurance run with a double that scored Gabe Holt.

Ty Harpeneau would come in to close the game working around runners on the corners with a game-ending double play.

Texas Tech will send Caleb Killian to the mound tomorrow for a chance to clinch the series for a trip to Omaha and the College World Series. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 PM at Dan Law field.
