Sonny Dykes To Be Named Head Coach At SMU
After losing Chad Morris to Arkansas, the SMU Mustangs were in need of finding a head coach. After some searching and according to multiple reports, it looks like they have found the man for the job.
That's right, one of the sons of the Texas Tech great Spike Dykes, Sonny, is going to be named the new head coach of SMU. This will mark the third different university that Sonny Dykes has been the head football coach of.
Dykes joined the Red Raiders in 2000 and served as a wide receivers coach his entire tenure and was promoted to co-offensive coordinator from 2005 to 2006. His first head coaching job was at Louisiana Tech where he went (22-15) there including a (9-3) season in 2012.
He then went to California and did not have as much success as he had a losing season in 3 of the 4 years he was there and was fired at the first part of this year.
Dykes spent this past season as an Offensive Analyst/Consultant at TCU. He will be taking over a SMU team that went (7-5) this season and will be playing Louisiana Tech in the DXL Frisco Bowl on December 20th.
