The State Fair of Texas announced that for the first time ever, they will host sensory friendly days for families with special needs members. Autistic children and others on the spectrum can enjoy the fair without the extreme lights and sounds of a regular fair day.

I love that the fair decided to offer these special times for special families. The bright lights and loud non-stop sounds of a huge carnival atmosphere can be simply overwhelming for some people. Now every Wednesday through October from 10 AM to 1 PM will be sensory friendly hours at the fair. There is even a specific guided itinerary for these families so you can plan your morning. Plus during regular fair hours when everything is going full blast, there are already designated quiet zones for families to take a break and depressurize if needed. That way families with members who can make it during regular fair activities but might need a short break will have designated spaces specifically for that.
