The 2017 Oscars — also known as the 89th Annual Academy Awards — aired on Sunday, February 26 live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, and La La LandMoonlight and Manchester By the Sea were big winners during the (somewhat bloated, 3.5 hours long) telecast.

It was also the first Academy Awards ceremony to honor four black winners in Mahershala Ali, Viola Davis, and Barry Jenkins and Tarell McCrane (for Moonlight's Adapted Screenplay) — a somewhat alarmingly late record in 2017, but one worth celebrating nonetheless.
