A Chihuahua in Albuquerque, New Mexico named Peggy Leg (awesome name!) was born missing one paw, and has been living at an animal shelter.

Doctors found that the missing foot was putting too much pressure on her spine when she walked and they were going to have to amputate her entire leg.

But researchers at North Carolina State University came up with a better solution. They're going to implant a prosthetic foot made out of titanium into her leg instead.

That's right...Peggy is about to get a BIONIC leg.

Larger dogs and a cat have gotten similar bionic implants, but Peggy will become the smallest dog to get a bionic leg.

Peggy will need to make three or four trips to North Carolina for the procedure. Enchantment Chihuahua Rescue in Albuquerque is paying for the trips.

A representative for the Enchantment Chihuahua Rescue says the procedure will not only help Peggy, it should also help promote a new type of prosthesis for our soldiers.
