A Lubbock Hit and Run Results in the Arrest of One Lubbock Man
One person was arrested after a hit and run incident in East Lubbock. The Lubbock Police Department was dispatched to the area of 19th street and Avenue S. at around 7:51 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7.
At the scene emergency crews did discover one person suffering from moderate injuries after being struck by someone driving a moped that did flee the scene after the incident occurred. Officer's with the Lubbock Police Department were able to find the driver, 36-year-old Shawn Chapman, of the moped who was arrested for failing to render aid. That pedestrian was transported via ambulance to University Medical Center for those moderate injuries
As per the publishing of this article, Chapman is still currently being held in the Lubbock County Detention Center on charges of Failure to Render Aid Causing Injury and Driving While License is Invalid with Severe Bodily Injury or Death. There is currently no bond listed for Chapman but if taken to trial could face some serious sentencing if convicted.
In the State of Texas Failure to Stop and Render Aid is considered a third-degree felony if it can be proven that there was some severe bodily injury and Driving While License Invalid Causing Severe Bodily Injury or Death is a Class A misdemeanor. These two charges combined can cost $14,000 in fines and between two to 11 years in prison.
