A Lubbock teenager tried escaping police custody multiple times over the weekend. The Lubbock Police Department was dispatched on Saturday, October 29, after reports of an altercation. KAMC news reported that 18-year-old Justin Eli Casias was in an argument with his girlfriend and had taken possession of her father's wallet.

Casias reportedly got into an altercation with his girlfriends father striking him in the jaw causing the father to put Casias into a headlock. Casias was accused of taking the fathers wallet while in that headlock and claims that his girlfriends father owed him money which is why he took the wallet.

Casias was arrested and transported to the Lubbock County Detention Center, while in transport Casias tried kicking out the back shield of the patrol car. Officers transporting the suspect were forced to stop the vehicle in an attempt to calm him down to continue the transport without injury. Casias tried to flee from police causing an officer to assist him to sit on the ground, in the process the suspect is said to have hit himself in the chin with his knee.

Due to the Casias' unwillingness to calm down a transport van, paddy wagon, had to be called to assist in transport. After Casias refused to calm down he was strapped to a backboard where he began resisting arrest but was successfully transported to the Lubbock County Detention Center.

Justin Casias was charged with Robbery, Resisting Arrest, Resisting Search or Transport, and two separate charges of Assault Against a Public Servant. Casias remains in the Lubbock County Detention Center as of the publishing of this article in lieu of a $30,000 bond.
