A new Grateful Dead beer is on the way. It's called "American Beauty", and the surviving members of the band worked with the Dogfish Head Craft Brewery to create it. Supposedly.

It's described as, "a bold pale-ale made with 100% U.S.-grown ingredients."

The band and the brewery reached out to fans for ideas on what to include in the recipe, and settled on GRANOLA...a suggestion by a guy named Thomas Butler.

Butler said, "The components of granola...honey, toasted grains, oats...offer a lot from a beer perspective."  Other fan ideas that didn't make the cut include: Red grenadine, rose hips and jalapenos.

"American Beauty" will be available on draft and in 750-ml bottles throughout Dogfish Head's 27-state distribution network within a few weeks.  (For more info, including a video on the beer, go to Dogfish.com.)
