Big 12 Officiating Crew Clears Out Two Texas Tech Student Sections at Jones AT&T Stadium [VIDEO]
Midway through the 4th quarter of Saturday's Texas Tech vs Iowa State game, the officials stopped play. At first, the stoppage looked like it was maybe a replay review for the referee. However, a few moments into the stoppage one of the other officials began pointing to toward the Texas Tech student section in the southeast corner of Jones AT&T Stadium.
Security then went into Sections 22 & 23 of the stadium as an announcement was made over the public address system for the students in those sections to clear out. The students in both Sections 22 & 23 had apparently been yelling abusive language toward the officials and throwing objects on to the field.
As you can see in the video below, security made quick work of clearing Sections 22 & 23.
The officials' shenanigans ended up not mattering at the end of the day, as Texas Tech held off Iowa State 41-38, winning on a 62-yard field goal from Jonathan Garibay as time expired.
The win puts Texas Tech's record at 6-4, making the team bowl game-eligible. The Red Raiders have two games remaining on their 2021 slate: Oklahoma State on November 20th at home in Lubbock, and Baylor in Waco on November 27th.
