ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons Going Solo… For One Show
ZZ Top guitarist Billy Gibbons will be making a rare solo club appearance later this month. The guitar maverick has a date set at the B.B. King Blues Club in New York City on Dec. 17.
Billed as Billy Gibbons & Friends, the show will also include drummer Anton Fig and bassist Will Lee, both longstanding members of David Letterman's band, and also known for their contributions to Ace Frehley's awesome 1978 solo album.
The ZZ Top frontman recently showed up on Lee's new solo album, delivering a standout performance on a cover of the R&B number 'Get Out of My Life Woman,' which also features the song’s composer, Allen Toussaint, on piano. Martin Guigui and Mike Flanigin will also perform with Gibbons at the show.
Gibbons fronted his first band, the Saints, when he was only 14. He then formed the Texas garage band the Moving Sidewalks, who reunited last year at the Austin Psych Fest. ZZ Top have a handful of shows left to finish off 2013, and will kick off 2014 with a string of dates in Canada. The group will release a deluxe edition of their most recent album, 'La Futura,' featuring the new songs 'Threshold of a Breakdown' and 'Drive By Lover,' on Dec. 10.
