CASA of the South Plains Stays Strong Amid National CASA Funding Cuts
While national headlines have cast uncertainty on CASA programs across the country, CASA of the South Plains wants folks in Lubbock to know: they're not going anywhere.
CASA of The South Plains is Fully Funded
This week, after the U.S. Department of Justice announced the termination of federal grant awards to National CASA, concerns naturally spread across the nation about the future of local programs that serve vulnerable children in foster care. But here at home, CASA of the South Plains is standing strong, fully funded, and as committed as ever to advocating for kids who need a voice!
In a press release from the organization, CASA of the South Plains emphasized that they do not receive any financial support from National CASA, and therefore the national funding cut will not affect operations in Lubbock or the surrounding communities.
“Our strength comes from our local community. Through a combination of state and local grants, generous donors, business partnerships, and successful fundraisers, we are able to provide consistent advocacy and support to children who need it most.”
What is CASA of the South Plains?
CASA — which stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates — trains volunteers to advocate for children in foster care, ensuring that each child’s voice is heard in courtrooms and beyond. And thanks to this rock-solid local support system, the program is actively recruiting new advocates and continuing its mission without interruption.
The organization said via press release:
“We know the news out of Washington may have worried some of our supporters. But let us reassure you: CASA of the South Plains is not only stable — we're growing, we're recruiting, and we’re ready to keep fighting for our kids.”
Community members are encouraged to stay engaged and help in any way they can, whether through donations, volunteering, or participating in fundraisers like Casas for CASA.
