‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Midnight Tickets Selling for Big Bucks on eBay
‘The Dark Knight Rises‘ tickets went on sale earlier this week and the first midnight showings promptly sold out in just minutes. Now, tickets to the midnight IMAX screenings are popping up on eBay and Craigslist for over $100; at times an almost 80% markup. Boy, we’ve heard about a ticket prices going up, but this is ridiculous.
‘The Dark Knight Rises’ tickets shouldn’t cost you more than $20. That’s assuming you live in a big city and are going to see the film in IMAX. But searches on ticket resale sites are showing sold out seats for ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ midnight showings selling for over $120. A few “entrepreneurs” are even selling groups of seats for $500.
This isn’t the first time ‘Dark Knight’ fever has caused the black market to be flooded with scalpers looking to make a quick back. Back in 2008, tickets for the IMAX midnight screenings of ‘The Dark Knight’ were selling for $100 at the most, but in the years since, inflation seems to have taken a toll on ticket prices.
Now the midnight ‘Dark Knight Rises’ tickets are still over a month away (that’s July 19th for those of you ready to camp out in front of theaters) so expect ticket prices to rise as hopefuls start bidding on eBay auctions and driving the ridiculous prices even higher.
But let’s be sane people. We know you want to be among the first to see ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ but don’t pay over $100 for tickets. Here in New York City, if you’re willing to wait just three hours, you can still buy tickets the legitimate way for the 3:00am IMAX screening. An extra $80-$100 seems a little silly just to see a movie three hours earlier.
