Devastating Fires Force Texas Tech Alumni Event Cancellation In Ruidoso
Fires are still ravaging the areas in and around Ruidoso, New Mexico. With the fire still raging, it's no surprise that the Texas Tech Alumni Association has decided to cancel their upcoming event that was to be held at Ruidoso Downs Race Track & Casino this Saturday.
Here's what they had to say in a post from Facebook:
After visiting with our contact at Ruidoso Downs Race Track & Casino and monitoring fire conditions, the races have yet to be canceled this Saturday. However, we have decided to CANCEL Red Raider Weekend in Ruidoso this weekend. All those who purchased tickets will be contacted regarding refunds and/or the option of contributing to local relief efforts for Ruidoso residents. Although it is disappointing to cancel this popular event, we’re far more concerned with the seriousness of the situation and everyone’s safety. Again, our hearts and prayers are with the Ruidoso community during this difficult time. #PrayForRuidoso
The U.S. Forestry Division estimated 9,000 people were evacuated overnight from the villages of Ruidoso and Mescalero. If you're wanting to help with the relief effort, here's a few ways you can assist:

Obviously, there are a lot of Red Raiders and Lubbockites who own homes in Ruidoso and the areas surrounding the mountain town and we will keep those people in our thoughts as well as the full-time residents and business owners who call Ruidoso home.
