Felicity Huffman Sentenced to 14 Days in Prison for Role in College Admission Scandal
Actress Felicity Huffman has been sentenced to 14 days in prison for her role in a fraud case involving college admissions. According to CNN, Huffman “also received a $30,000 fine, 250 hours of community service and one year supervised release.”
Huffman had pled guilty in the case back in May. Back then, prosecutors “recommended a sentence of four months prison time along with“$20,000 fine and 12 months of supervised release.” The accusations against Huffman, an Emmy winner and Academy Award nominee, included paying thousands of dollars to a fake charity in exchange for assistance for her daughter on the SATs.
At Huffman’s sentencing Judge Indira Talwani said the star “knew it was a fraud it was not an impulsive act.” Huffman read from a statement, apologizing for her actions, and apologizing to her daughters and her husband, actor William H. Macy (who was not charged in the case). The other famous star ensnared in the case is Fuller House actress Lori Loughlin. She refused to plead guilty and will instead go to trial; she is alleged to have paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to help get her children into the University of Southern California.
