A former FBI agent that resides in Lubbock has filed a lawsuit against US Attorney General Merrick Garland, the Department of Justice and the FBI for unlawful employment practices and sex discrimination.

Katia Litton, along with her husband, Matthew Litton and 2 other FBI agents, was arrested back in September of 2010 after being accused of being a part of an alleged steroid ring and lying about the medications they took. The criminal complaint suggested that Katia and Matthew had received fake diagnoses to obtain prescriptions of steroids and human growth hormones.

The couple argued that the medications were a part of their 12-year attempt to have a baby. The Washington Post reported back in 2013 that this incident "destroyed [the Litton's] savings, derailed their careers and set back their pregnancy plans." The couple was also apparently prevented from seeking transfers, promotions and performing important roles in their jobs since their security clearances had not been restored.

The charges would be dropped 2 months after the couple was arrested , and Katia was suspended from the FBI without pay until January of 2012. KAMC News reports that in 2014, the FBI terminated Litton. She filed an employment discrimination complaint, however, and was reinstated once again in 2017.

The current lawsuit, filed on Tuesday, July 19th, claims that Katia wasn't given backpay for the time she was suspended back in 2010 and 2014.
