Little Things Lubbock Loves: Friday Lunch at Four Bar K

There's nothing better than a good lunch special and there's one special that's been happening every Friday in Lubbock for as long as I can remember: The Famous Friday Four Bar K BBQ Lunch!

The Four Bar K is about a mile east of the Tahoka highway on 82nd. Just down from Pedro's Tamales. I don't want there to be any confusion for any long-time Lubbockites reading this since there are actually TWO Four Bar K locations. One is located off of 98th near University, but it's a horse stable and riding arena. The one on 82nd is technically called 'INSIDE Four Bar K' and is the one where they serve lunch on Fridays and host events like the wedding in the picture below.

Friday lunch is $15, starts at 11:30AM and goes till 2:00PM. I've been going with a group of friends almost every Friday for about 15 years and I'm always surprised that the place isn't absolutely PACKED. More people need to know about this deal!

This is how it's described on their website:

"Friday Lunch is a BBQ buffet that features two trips through the buffet line, home-made chicken-n-dumplings (“Make your belly slap your backbone” – Chuck Kershner), complimentary COLD beer and LIVE music by a variety of artists. Cost is $15.00 per person every Friday from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm. Four Bar K Friday Lunch is a place where you can escape your busy work day for an hour of relaxation and culture. In and out fast are our specialty for those on a short lunch time."

There's always live music from some of Lubbock's favorite musicians, complimentary cold beer and wine as well as smoked brisket, smoked sausage, beans, cole slaw, homemade salsa, chips and cornbread along with BBQ sauce, onions and pickles. Dessert is also included. Sometimes, he'll put out something 'special' for everyone, like twice baked potatoes, mac & cheese or something else, but don't expect that. It's pretty rare.

Whatever you do, DO NOT skip the chicken & dumplins. They're spectacular and my favorite thing there!

The Four Bar K is locally owned and operated by all around rascal and the world's biggest fan of 'Lonesome Dove', Chuck Kershner. That's Chuck and the lovely Meggan in the picture below.

Like I mentioned above, one of the best parts (other than the chicken & dumplins) is the live music from great local artists such as, Jenni Dale Lord, John Sprott, Kelly Hastey, Clay Gibson and many, many more!

The Four Bar K specializes in event hosting as well. I think Chuck started doing the Friday lunch as a way to get potential customers to check the place out for their family and work events and the Friday lunch thing just took off from there. I think he told me that anyway. I don't remember. I might have had one too many of those free beers, so who knows.

Either way, if you are looking to book a wedding, company party, quinceanera, or any other special event, they do a great job!
