Join The Tribute To Furrs Cafeteria This November at Escondido Grill
A Taste of Lubbock’s Past Returns
Hey, Lubbock—get ready to step back in time for one unforgettable Sunday! On November 2nd, The Escondido Grill at Spirit Ranch is hosting yet another tribute to the legendary Furr’s Cafeteria, the beloved West Texas dining institution that fed generations of families before closing its doors for good in 2021.

If you grew up piling your tray high with fried fish, mac and cheese, and that famous Millionaire Pie, this is your chance to relive those flavors that made Furr’s a household name. The first Furr’s tribute event was packed, and this time around, the Escondido team has made adjustments to ensure a smoother experience.
Reservations are required—you’ll need to purchase a ticket for your preferred time slot. Guests ages 12 and up need tickets, while kids under 12 can order from a special children’s menu. Full details and tickets are available right here!
A Family Legacy Comes Full Circle
This event holds special meaning for Executive Chef and owner Jason Waters, whose family roots run deep in Furr’s history. His great uncle, Cliff Andrews, helped develop many of the signature recipes and grew the business from a single cafeteria in Hobbs, New Mexico, to more than 80 locations across the Southwest.

Jason’s grandfather, Harold Andrews, and several other relatives worked as butchers, managers, and even training directors for Furr’s—making this tribute both personal and heartfelt.
Waters said in a press release:
This is a chance to reconnect with the flavors that shaped so many childhoods. It’s about more than food—it’s about celebrating the community and the memories.
Spirit Ranch Becomes Furr’s (For a Day)
From 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., Escondido Grill will transform into a full-blown Furr’s Cafeteria experience—complete with original recipes, live piano music, and maybe even a peacock or two wandering by.
It’s nostalgia served hot and ready, right in the heart of Spirit Ranch, one of Lubbock’s most scenic spots.
What Was on Your Furr’s Tray?
For me? Fried and baked fish, mac and cheese, okra, collard greens, and of course—Millionaire Pie. Sometimes...a couple of slices since I'm an aristocrat!
