The lake between Texas and Oklahoma has been getting lots of attention for the video footage of the vortex phenomenon.

RT online reports that the US Army Corps of Engineers Tulsa District has posted the video of the 8-foot diameter vortex that was capable of sucking in a full-sized boat.

The engineers have a perfectly good explanation for the video, however.

The assistant manager at Lake Texoma BJ Parkey told Business Insider: "Just like in your house when you fill a bathtub full of water and [open] the drain, it will develop a vortex or whirlpool."

The Texoma reservoir is one of the largest in the United States where water accumulates from the Denison Dam on the Red River. With the recent regional floods, however, it has been running at a much higher capacity. This has caused the vortex to seem much more menacing than in the past.

It's pretty scary to think what would happen to a boat if it did get sucked in the hole!
