GoFundMe Fundraiser Started for Lubbock Church Vandalized on Saturday

A Lubbock church was vandalized this past Saturday, June 12th, 2021.

The assailants broke into and extensively vandalized the St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church, which is located in the 6000 block of 81st Street in southwest Lubbock.

The photos of the damage were shown on various Facebook pages over the weekend.

On their official Facebook page, the St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church said: "Our prayers are with the individual(s) who desecrated our parish last night. But God is always good, and we thank so many people who have already asked how they can help."

A GoFundMe was quickly started to help raise money to repair the damage to the church. As of 10:45 p.m. on Sunday, June 13th, $57,000 had already been raised. The GoFundMe has a goal of raising $75,000.

The author of the GoFundMe fundraiser also shared additional information concerning the damage to St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church:

"Someone/more than one (?) broke in and destroyed whatever they wanted. The stained glass window where we hold our babies to the light ... All the holy things in the altar ... Icons of Christ and his mother, the saints - thrown and smashed ... The tomb of Christ we celebrate that is EMPTY hauled across building and thrown into the refrigerator ...
They ripped the cross off the door, even, and threw the crown of thorns outside.
"Our little kitchen where we make meals, parish hall where parishioners and visitors alike gather together after services, and bookstore with little crosses for sale (stolen) - all trashed. They even destroyed the little hot water heater that we finally installed after 12 years (thanks to the generosity of a few parishioners who had just paid for it ).
"So many things I can't even list here. So much senseless hate and pain."

As of Sunday night, no word on if any arrests have made by the Lubbock Police Department.
