‘Gotti’ Trailer: John Travolta’s Hunting For Another Comeback as the Infamous Mob Boss
John Travolta already had one career comeback, thanks to Quentin Tarantino and Pulp Fiction. After wandering the Hollywood wilderness from the mid-’80s to the mid-’90s, the Saturday Night Fever star got things back on track playing mobster Vincent Vega. Travolta spent years back on the Hollywood A-List after that, but eventually he began to appear in lower profile projects; in recent years, some of his work has gone straight to video. Now, after the success of The People vs. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, where Travolta played attorney Robert Shapiro, he’s hoping playing another mobster, this one pulled from real life, will give him a second big career boost.
That brings us to Gotti, where Travolta stars as the infamous mob figure. Interestingly, the film is directed by Entourage star Kevin Connolly. I don’t know about you, but I get a real Queens Boulevard vibe here. The official synopsis:
Gotti follows infamous crime boss John Gotti’s (John Travolta) rise to become the “Teflon Don” of the Gambino Crime Family in New York City. Spanning three decades and recounted by his son John Jr. (Spencer Lofranco), Gotti examines Gotti’s tumultuous life as he and his wife (Kelly Preston) attempt to hold the family together amongst tragedy and multiple prison sentences.
“This life of ours is a wonderful life. If you can get away with it,” Travolta’s Gotti says in the trailer. Indeed. But will Gotti put him back on top? We shall see. The film opens in select theaters and on demand on December 15.
