Helping Heroes Event to Help Injured Officers & Families [INTERVIEW]
Public Information Officer for the Lubbock Police Department Lieutenant Ray Mendoza joined Lubbock's First News on Monday (July 20) to share information about the upcoming Helping Heroes event here in Lubbock.
On Saturday (July 25) there will be an event called Helping Heroes from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Indiana Ave Baptist Church, located at 98th and Indiana Avenue. The event will include food vendors, activities for children and donations are welcome to help these officers and their families.
Mendoza discussed how officers from different agencies have come together and decided that they needed to do more to help officers who have been injured in the line of duty or can no longer work due to injury.
"A lot of these officers including myself work extra duty jobs and work overtime shifts," said Mendoza. "In this case, their families have to take time off to care for them so they take a big hit. We're going to try to help them out and try to get them through this."
