How Texas Businesses Are Thriving Despite Inflation Woes
Inflation may be messing with everyone’s wallets, but here in Texas, we’re showing the rest of the country how it’s done. A new report from global fintech company SumUp ranks the top 20 states that have stayed resilient amid inflation, and Texas made the list at #14.
How Texas Businesses Are Battling Inflation
Texas business owners have stepped up! According to SumUp’s survey:
- 97% of Texas businesses are actively keeping an eye on inflation. That means we’re watching every penny to stay ahead of the curve.
- 77% of business owners have fought hard to stay afloat over the last two years. Inflation’s been throwing punches, but we’ve been bobbing and weaving!.
- 84% adjusted their pricing strategies in 2024.
- Despite it all, 58% of Texas business owners feel optimistic about their profits in 2025.
- 84% of businesses feel ready to tackle inflation if it keeps climbing.
Where Texas Stands in the Rankings
Okay, so Texas ranked #14 on the list with an Impact Score of 50.80 out of 100. Not bad! The fancy people in Connecticut grabbed the top spot with an impressive score of 20.00. They’ve got a smaller population and more businesses that didn’t need to adjust their pricing, so kudos to them!.
What’s interesting is how Texas stacks up against states like New Mexico (#2) and New Jersey (#3). In New Mexico, only 25% of businesses had to adjust pricing last year, while 50% are expecting lower profits in 2025. Meanwhile, New Jersey saw 58% of businesses tweak prices and still stay optimistic about next year.
Industries Holding Their Ground
The survey also revealed which industries are the most resilient to inflation. No surprise here—Texas’ strength in energy and agriculture is helping us hold the line.
1. Energy & Utilities (like oil and gas): This industry is barely breaking a sweat, with 0% expecting lower profits in 2025.
2. Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishing: Even with inflation pressure, they’re staying confident about the future.
3. Finance & Insurance: They’ve made adjustments but remain optimistic about what’s next.
It’s no secret that Texas has a huge footprint in these industries, and they’re helping anchor our economy through the roller coaster that is the economy.
Lone Star Spirit
At the end of the day, what makes Texas special isn’t just our industries or our ranking on some random report. It’s our unshakable spirit. Inflation’s been a challenge, but we’re meeting it head-on with grit, ingenuity, and the kind of teamwork you can only find in the Lone Star State!
So, the next time someone asks how Texas is doing during these tough economic times, you tell them this: We’re not just weathering the storm—we’re thriving. And that’s the Texas way.
