It’s Long Past Time to Bring in a Bulldozer at This Former Lubbock Sports Bar
How long has it been since anyone enjoyed a cold one at the former Nick's Sports Grill and Lounge on Quaker and 98th Street?
Even though in recent days the team that had operated Nick's moved just down the street to open the new Reserve Culinary Tavern, the building that formerly housed Nick's sits dreary and unoccupied, with no light at the end of the tunnel from what we've seen.
There are still street-side signs listing the location as up for lease, but other than a fairly recently swept parking lot, the only signs of life come from critters that have made their way inside or possible squatters. In all honesty, from my vantagepoint it wouldn't surprise me if someone (or something) is already at home here.
This, however, is an issue.
The back wall which housed the electrical for the building has been ripped away, exposing some pretty gnarly wiring and perhaps an entry point to the building. Copper thieves may have already done a number back here, but if the power comes back on (or still is) then this is a serious fire hazard. It ain't safe.
Whoever actually decides to lease (or purchase) this spot is going to have to sink hundreds of thousands of dollars before they can pour their first beer, so it's probably not even worth it at this stage. So what's the other option?
Bulldozers, and lots of 'em.
Thank you, random character from SpongeBob.
It's time to put this eyesore out of its misery. The former employees have all moved on, and if we still can't get the old Cattle Baron location opened back up, then this just ain't gonna happen.
Bring in the wrecking balls and knock it down. It's still a quality location that could use a shiny new restaurant or something similar, but the property that currently sits there is only going to create problems in time, add to blight, and needs to be sent to the scrap pile of Lubbock memories.
Tear it down.
