Protect Your Loved Ones: See Who’s On New Texas Violent Offenders Database
Recently I visited with Sergeant Mark Couch, the public information trooper for the Texas Department of Public Safety. While interviewing Sergeant Couch, he informed me that the new Texas Violent Offenders Database would be available to the public soon.
It was shared that last year the Texas state legislators created House Bill 5202, which requires the Texas DPS to maintain a centralized public database of violent offenders who are found guilty of domestic family violence.
The database was officially launched on December 29, 2023, days ahead of the state lawmakers' deadline of January 1, 2024. After a little over a month of fine-tuning, the database is fully operational and available to the public.
Since the pandemic, family violence has increased throughout Texas. Listed below are the different crimes that offenders have been charged with, as well as a link to see who these violators are.
Protect yourself and your family by knowing who is living nearby. The Texas Department of Public Safety offers access to the Violent Offenders Database free of charge.
This database pursuant to Tex. Govt. Code Sec. 411.1355 contains information regarding domestic violence offenders who on two or more occasions have been convicted of the following Texas Penal Code offenses:
- Assault
- Sexual Assault
- Aggravated Assault
- Aggravated Sexual Assault
- Continuous Violence Against the Family
- Stalking
Assault, Sexual Assault, Aggravated Assault, and Aggravated Sexual Assault convictions additionally require the judge’s affirmative finding of Family Violence under Texas Code of Criminal Procedure Article. Source: Public Site Texas DPS
To search the database create an account and search by name. Note the Texas DPS says: "A person may petition to be removed from the database if not convicted of one of the specified offenses in the seven (7) years preceding the removal request."
