A Few Reasons to Check Out Stand-Up Comedy in Lubbock

Have you been to one of Lubbock's local comedy nights? There are actually several shows each week, and I've noticed lately that some of the long-running comedy nights aren't as packed as they used to be.

I just wanted to take a second to remind you all that they exist!

Some of our local comedians have been around for decades. Others are brand new, just crossing their fingers for a laugh. One thing they all have in common, (besides depression/divorce/low self-esteem/daddy issues, etc.) is that they need an audience!

This is where you come in...

Whether it's the greatest show on earth or the absolute worst, 9 times out of 10, it's free. If you've been to one show and hated it, I highly recommend going to another. No two nights of stand-up are ever the same. It's important to remember that not only are open mic nights free to the public, anyone is invited to perform. It's better to start off in a small room that's a bit more forgiving than a massive theater of angry people that paid to laugh.

If you're paying at the door, you're probably seeing some folks that really know what they're doing. The local scene tries its best to put on a good show, especially when money is on the line! That's when they bring out the big guns. A handful of comics from Lubbock have even toured around the United States and performed alongside some of the comedians you watch on television. Pretty spiffy.

My point is...

Give local comedy shows a chance! Get to know the people. Go up and try it yourself! They aren't going to kick you out if you suck. They'll usually just wait for you to come to that realization on your own.
