End of An Era: Lubbock Restaurant Calls It Quits After 70 Years Of Operation
"A West Texas tradition since 1952" will soon come to an end, as the owners of Tom & Bingo's Hickory Pit BBQ have decided to call it quits. However, there is some hope for Tom & Bingo's, which we will get to soon.
The announcement was made today (1/12/2024) that the restaurant would close by Saturday, January 20th.
These West Texas winds have blown us in a different direction & we find ourselves at the end of a great era. It’s been an honor to serve West Texas all these years.
Tom & Bingo's has been family-owned and operated for over 70 years, which means Tom & Bingo's has been serving Lubbock since Buddy Holly was in High School. That's an incredible feat, to say the least.
Recently, Tom & Bingo's asked the public for some patience as their 75-year-old building, located at 3006 34th Street, was "falling apart quicker than [they could] make repairs."
There is some hope for Tom & Bingo's to live on, as the business is looking for a potential new pitmaster to take over.
Searching for the next great pitmaster to take over…DM us [on Facebook] if you are interested.
Perhaps the recipes and techniques of Ton & Bingo's can live on, even if the original family has decided to move on.
The Lubbock restaurant business is notoriously a tough one, with a high restaurant-per-capita and what feels like a constant influx of new chain locations and local concepts alike. I will always admire the skill and bravery it takes for a small business owner to make it here.
Best of luck to the Tom & Bingo family in their future endeavors!
