2023 has seen a slew of restaurant closures, particularly in pizza and Mexican cuisine options. Was this a "correction" from too many options? Or was it simply bad luck, a less-than-stellar performance from these eateries, or a symptom of all the post-pandemic fallout for businesses? Likely the answer is a combination of at least two of those factors. The closures have one silver lining: the opportunity for something new to come along and try its luck in our highly competitive Lubbock foodscape.

Raider Burrito Express (aka Radier Burrito #2) has recently opened at 2901 Slide Rd, across from Ooo La Lattes. This area tends to get overlooked by new businesses, so this location may be a boon for the business. Additionally, many Lubbockites (myself included) are aware of the quality of the original Raider Burrito location and may be more likely to give this location a chance over something entirely new to the scene.

The original Raider Burrito is located at 2102 19th St near Lubbock High School and has been, in my opinion, a fantastic late-night option in an area that needs more late-night options- considering its proximity to Texas Tech, The Depot, and other area nightlife. The salsa is "chef-kiss" quality, to be sure.
