The kids are out of school, and it looks like it's going to be a rainy day in the 806. It's only a matter of time before they start begging you for snacks and bouncing off the walls.

Before you give in and hand over the tablet for a little peace, here are 10 fun ways to keep your kids entertained for a few hours while it rains.

1. Build an Epic Blanket Fort

This is my favorite rainy day activity. Grab all of the pillows, blankets, and couch cushions you can find and watch your kids create a masterpiece. Bonus Points: Serve snacks INSIDE the fort. Mom of the year stuff right there!

2. Living Room Olympics

Create a few easy events like:

  • Sock Sliding (Who can slide the farthest?)
  • Stuffed Animal Hoops (Shoot'em in the laundry basket!)
  • Balance Beam (Not a real one, silly. Make a line on the floor with tape.)

You'll probably need some homemade medals for this incredibly serious competition.

3. Bake Cookies Together

It doesn't have to be cookies. It could be anything. The goal isn't perfection. Just make something edible to pass the time and make a few memories.

4. Turn Cardboard Boxes Into Anything

They aren't just for cats. Kids love them too! Boxes are often much more entertaining than whatever came in them.

Hide clues around the house and send your children on a mission to find stuff. It can be as simple or as elaborate as you have energy for.

6. Movie Marathon

Nothing better than watching movies in the fort!

7. Board Games?

Kids these days barely know board games exist! Teach them about the woes of life with a game of Monopoly.

8. Snail Collecting

I used to love collecting as many snails as I could find in a jar when it rained. Send the kids outside and tell them not to come back until they have a whole jar full of snails. Kept me busy for a while...

9. Put on a Talent Show

Show off your skills on the microphone and have a little talent show with your kids. Throw on a silly wig or an old Halloween costume and do something dramatic. They'll laugh. It's worth it.

10. Let Them Get Bored

It sounds weird, but with great boredom comes great creativity.

Let them get bored and see what kind of silly fun they come up with on their own.
