If you went to concerts back in the day, you knew Greg Parrott.

I've always been partial to the Lubbock Sheriff's Department, mostly because my uncle was an L.A. County Sheriff. I guess he taught me that sheriffs were cool, and that stuck with me. The thing with sheriffs is, they seem to have a little more leeway to be cool than by-the-book policemen. No shade to you guys, because I know you have to answer to a political machine that's a bit more strict.

Sergeant Parrott and Deputy Deon Clemmons, and I hope I got that name/title right, were the go-to concert team in Lubbock back in the day. I'm sure there were many more who deserve to be mentioned, but these two were always a welcome sight at a show. You could just tell they were there to make sure everyone had a good time. That, my friends, is a choice, because if you don't think some security, in some places, show up just to crack heads, you'd be wrong.

I hired these two to be my heads of security for Nightmare on 19th Street. Greg taught me so much about how to handle crowds, and when to call in law enforcement, that I still use those lessons today. There is a real art to keeping people safe without killing the vibe, and he understood that better than most.

The Pepperball Heard Around Lubbock

Of course, you probably know Parrott for an entirely different reason. He's the guy who agreed to shoot original RockShow co-host Heathen with a pepperball gun. This epic stunt has gone viral time after time.

What you probably don't know is that it was also used as a training video to show off the real-world results of a direct hit. The video is still hilarious to this day, and I love that you can see Greg crack a little smile at the sheer dumbassery of it all.

Places We Miss: The Main Street Saloon

I've embedded the video, but it is age-restricted, so you may have to travel over to YouTube to watch it. Either way, it is still amazingly hilarious, and it is one more reminder that Sergeant Greg Parrott was part of the fabric of Lubbock concerts, Lubbock radio, and Lubbock stories that will never get old.
