It’s that time of year when the days are getting longer, the weather is warming up, and everyone in Lubbock wants to be spending more time outside.

One of my favorite spring activities is planning and planting a beautiful garden that you can enjoy through the warm months. From herbs, flowers, veggies, and more, there are so many great plants you can grow.

While you might spend most of your time shopping at big-box shops like Lowes or Home Depot for your spring garden, I highly suggest shopping local.

A great way to do that is at the Lubbock Master Gardener Plant Sale.

The sale will take place at the Hodges Community Center at 4011 University Ave on April 20th, 2024, starting at 9:00 a.m.

This is a big event for the organization that takes place each spring and allows the Lubbock community to get together a shop for some locally grown plants.

They posted a sneak peek of what will be for sale at this event on their Facebook page, and it looks like a great mix. There is everything from basil, peppers, spider plants, caladium, jade, tomatoes, dahlias, cactus, thyme, mint, and more.

If you aren’t sure what to get, I think a salsa garden is a great option here in Lubbock. You can also start small with a couple of herbs that would be great to use in the kitchen. Or snag a few beautiful flowering plants to add to your home’s flower beds. The options are endless!
