The Alamo is Getting a $500 Million Face Lift

One of the most iconic Texas landmarks, full of history and a statement of pride for the Lone Star State, is the Alamo.

It is a popular tourist attraction for anyone visiting San Antonio, and nearly every Texan has visited it at least once in their life. If they haven’t been there in person, they at least learned about its history in school.

Now, after not seeing any new construction since 1950, the landmark is undergoing a major restoration.

This $500 million project will include preserving the 300-year-old Church and Long Barrack, recapturing the original mission site and battle footprint, and creating a brand-new visitor center and museum to share the site’s full story.

The Alamo Visitor Center and Museum is taking over what was the Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Odditorium and is on track for a 2027 grand opening.

The Alamo Plan is in place to bring back the glory of the Alamo and give the historic site the attention it deserves.

I’ve been to the Alamo twice so far, and I am excited to see what is to come with this renovation. I think it is incredibly valuable to respect, care for, and understand parts of our history. Preservation and restoration efforts like this are what allows landmarks to remain standing for the following generations to enjoy.

Once the project is complete, I am looking forward to visiting again and seeing how these renovation efforts turn out.
