Fall is coming which means fair season will be upon us before you know it.

Many people’s favorite part of fall in Lubbock is the Panhandle South Plains Fair. The perfect combination of fried food, fun rides, entertaining games, and livestock shows, this is a great time for all ages.

This year’s fair takes place from September 22nd to the 30th and will have all the classic stuff you love.

If you are like me, then you typically go to the fair for the food and games. While I love watching the colorful rides spin and swing around, they make me way too nauseous to actually ride. I can maybe handle one or two before I'm out for the count. That’s why I stick to the fun houses, carnival games, or watching my friends go crazy on the rides.

If you’re wanting to be able to enjoy these rides more without getting sick, there are a few tips and tricks you can try.

Eat Before the Ride:

While it might seem counterintuitive, it can actually help keep your stomach settled if you eat before going on rides. Foods that especially help are bread, crackers, and other high-carb foods. Just give your body time to digest a little and don’t hop on a ride right after downing an entire lemonade and scarfing down a corn dog.

Pressure Points:

You have natural pressure points on your wrist that can help alleviate nausea. About an inch from the bottom of your palm, on the center of your wrist, there is a pressure point you can lightly massage to keep away the sick feeling. You can also do the same thing by pinching the web of your hand between your thumb and pointer finger.

Orientation:

If you are starting to feel sick while actively on a ride, try closing your eyes and keeping your head still. This can help prevent the woozy feeling in your head that leads to eventually getting nauseous.
