Everything is bigger in Texas. I mean three of the United States top 10 largest cities are in Texas. Texas is also the second largest state in the U.S. by square mileage, and we've got the second biggest population.

But what about the smaller ones?

The smallest town is in Jim Hogg County. Guerra has a population of six people. It was established in 1906, the Guerra post office was still in service as late as 1990.

According to Texas Escapes, A. Guerra, whose last name is the Spanish word for "war", first settled the land in the late 1800s. Although the town was named after him, the Mexican inhabitants preferred calling it El Colorado because large numbers of red cattle roamed the area. The post office moved from San Antonio Viejo and opened at Guerra in 1906 with Don Apolonio Gomez acting as the postmaster. By 1914, the town had a hundred citizens and sixteen businesses.

Guerra had its biggest population in 1914 when it hit 100 people and sixteen businesses. These included a general store, a blacksmith, a railroad agent, and a number of livestock establishments.

By 1990, the population was 15 and the town served as a retail point for cattle ranchers. Guerra even remains a part of the Jim Hogg County Independent School District like all the other towns in the region.

Guerra is located in southwestern Jim Hogg County where Farm to Market Road 649 runs through the community, leading north 14 miles to Randado and south 35 miles  to Garceno in the Rio Grande Valley.
