Legacy of Selena To Be Celebrated By Lubbock Symphony Orchestra
Established in 1946, the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra (LSO) holds a distinguished position as one of Lubbock’s longest-standing entertainment organizations.
Comprising a collective of highly skilled musicians drawn from diverse corners of the community, the LSO has woven itself intricately into the cultural tapestry of the South Plains region.
On Saturday, September 7 at 7:30 p.m. in The Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts & Sciences, the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra, led by Music Director David Cho, will be joined by Isabel Marie Sánchez – 2016 recipient of the Tejano Music Award for Best New Female Artist - in a concert celebrating the musical legacy of Selena.
The performance will feature iconic hits including “Dreaming of You,” “Como la Flor,” “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom,” “No Me Queda Más,” and “I Could Fall in Love.” Tickets start at $33 and go on sale Tuesday, April 16 at lubbocksymphony.org or by calling 806-762-1688.
American Tejano singer Isabel Marie Sánchez gained early recognition while performing in singing and dancing contests. Sánchez’s breakthrough came during the third season of La Voz Kids when she caught the attention of record executive Abraham Quintanilla. Her 2016 debut album New Girl in Town was met with critical and commercial success.
Sánchez received the Tejano Music Award for Best New Female Artist, becoming the youngest ever winner. Her second album, Sìgueme, was nominated for Album of the Year and her third album, Xoxo – Hugs and Kisses, achieved commercial success.
Sánchez has been nominated for the Latin Grammy Award for Best Tejano Album, was honored by the Texas House of Representatives, and is active in supporting charitable and non-profit organizations. She has performed a tribute to Selena in concert with several orchestras including the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, Oregon Symphony Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, and the San Diego Symphony Orchestra.
