Temperatures are on the rise across Texas this week. In Lubbock, we already felt those Summer-like temperatures with highs this weekend hitting 90 degrees. This week the rest of the Lone Star State will heat up and ERCOT is working to prevent a power emergency according to numerous reports.

With higher temperatures comes higher demand for power (air conditioning of course) and on this past Friday, the grid operator issued a warning that let residents know that this week with higher temperatures going up across the state, it's possible that conditions could lead to a power emergency.

The good news is that ERCOT is delaying or canceling all planned outages for the week. The move should be able to strengthen the grid for the week and hopefully avoid any disruptions.

According to MySA.com. Temperatures in South-Central Texas on Tuesday and Wednesday are supposed to be in the upper 80's and low 90's. The same can be said for North Texas. Temperatures are supposed to peak across the state on Thursday before a cold front moves through the state cooling us down.

According to the Dallas Morning News, ERCOT officials have stressed that the grid has held strong since 2021.

However, ERCOT officials have also claimed that the grid has held strong during high-demand periods like the total solar eclipse and that improvements have been made since 2021 to ensure the grid’s reliability during the cold seasons.

ERCOT could send out additional notices as early as Monday. We will let you know if they do.
