Alleged Child Sexual Predator Arrested Along Texas-Mexico Border
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers recently apprehended an undocumented Mexican citizen after he was attempting to exit the U.S. along the Texas border. Further investigation revealed the man was also wanted for a sexual crime against a child.
Border Arrest that Shocked CBP Officers
On January 21, border agents at the Laredo Port of Entry stopped a commercial bus from crossing into Mexico for outbound review. One of the passengers, 35-year-old Rogelio Isaac Hernandez Flores, an undocumented Mexican citizen, was referred to secondary inspection.
After providing biometric verification such as facial recognition and fingerprint ID, officers discovered that not only did Flores not have the legal documentation to be in the U.S., but he also had an outstanding felony warrant from the Modesto Police Department in Modesto, California, for sexual offense of a child involving lewd acts.
California law inflicts harsh penalties for lewd acts against children under the age of 14 with threats of up to eight years in prison.
Laredo Port Director Alberto Flores expressed his pride in the border patrol for stopping this man from fleeing the country:
The apprehension of this undocumented individual, who was attempting to leave the country and was found to have an active warrant for a serious offense, demonstrates the vigilance and dedication of our frontline officers in identifying and detaining those who may pose a threat before they can cause further harm.
Hernandez Flores was immediately detained and turned over to the Webb County Sheriff's Office to await his criminal proceedings.
